Masking Autism

I mask my autism to get accepted, but it just takes so, so much energy. You need to mentally create a layer of some sorts that hides some of the autistic traits that you might have, but also a mask that interprets things like metaphorical language.

As you might expect, adding that ‘mask’ takes a lot of energy. Without the mask people find you even stranger, but with the mask you lose half of your energy to act normal. Masking is something that a lot of people with ASD do. I find that this masking hides my true identity just to fit-in is something that should not be required.

everyone should be able to be who they are, without getting neglected by society.
